Default SSW 32 Sawdust Column Poll

Hi everyone,
Sawdust in the upcoming issue is going to be on Saw Maintenance this issue. So...here's my poll.

How often do you perform preventative maintenance on your saw. The PM can be as simple as roughing up the ends of the screws in the blade holder, or as elaborate as a dismantling and cleaning, sanding and waxing your table, or simply oiling the joints.

I guess it depends on how you define preventive maintenance. I selected weekly as I give mine a good cleaning once a week or so which is really to only maintenance required on my EX-30.

That's what I mean! I've contacted most of the major manufacturers to see what they suggest you do to maintain your saw.

I'll also include little things like roughing up the thumbscrews, waxing table (NO SILICONE WAX!!!).

I use to think PM was Post m-------l, But after killing 2 saws and critically wounding one by riding them hard and putting them away wet.

. I do at least clean my EX-21 weekly. And check adjustments if needed. I have learned a lot from this forum. Oh, I was informed not to use wax or cleaners on the ex table top.

I generally clean the saw up after every project (vacuum) but do no routine mechanical maintenance unless something breaks. Only problem I've had with "Old Yellar" was a blown fuse and had to file the end of the upper blade clamp screw flat.

I checked weekly, but sometimes I don't use my for 2 or 3 weeks,
so I don't do anything to it, sometimes more than 1 st a week.

All I do with my DeWalt is vacuum out the switch and wax the table about once a month or so.

Well maybe I am rough, but there is just not that much maintenace to do on a scrollsaw. at least on mine. I do make sure the tighting screw is sanded and adjusted at center , and lubing after lots of hours. but thats just about all. I also like to clean the dust off as well. but don't know why. I like to keep things clean. well I do have to blow out the diel on the speed controle but only sometimes. and the switch is covered, but still blow that out while cleaning. I also cover my saw, don't know why, but just do. I do blow out the foot feed petale as well. DAng, I didn't know I did so much to take cair of my saw. but I just do. don't know why. your friend Evie
