Default Holy Guacamole

I've been on the board here for about a month. Been serious about this scrollsaw art/craft/expressism for a bit longer than two months. I have designed several unique and beautiful chess sets and I thought I was getting to a plateau of things to learn.

Then I picked up the spring edition of the magazine and my head almost exploded.

You guys do a great job with the craft and presentation. I have not picked up any other woodworking magazine that makes the reader feel like they can make those beautiful items gracing their pages like you do. Keep it up!! I'm sending in my subcription NOW.

Thanks Jim,
Now that you've told us what you like...is there anything you'd change? We LOVE positive feedback (who doesn't), but we're also open to constructive criticism as well...

It's the old adage...if we don't know something is wrong, we can't fix it!

Six issues a year instead of four? <grin>

I'd love to see some information on different types of wood and how well they work in the scroll saw, for thin, thick, insanely thick and compound cutting.

Also, just Jim thinking off the top of my head, but how somebody may have taken a ruined project and saved it..... since I've NEVER ruined anything in my life (want some beachfront property here in Arizona?)

Thanks for listening, all of that was off the top of my head and just ideas. I didn't see any pimples... when and if I do I'll sing out

Hey Bob,

Gotta go with the crowd, what is the reason/reasons for only having 4 issues a year? What would have to be done to change this?
I know marketing is a tough business, but let us know, and maybe we might be able to come up with some ideas.
After all, I have never seen a question here that didn't get at least one good answer.

Tom

Why stop at 4,6,8, 10 copies of the magazine. Hire more people and give us 12 issues a year. Bet you can't do it........dare!

It's not a new request....I hear it all the time.

What it comes down to is simple economics. The profit on the magazine is a combination of subscriptions and advertising. We've pretty much maxed out the advertising in the magazine based on our subscription numbers--to get the big name advertisers like Delta, Black and Decker, etc, you need to meet large subscription numbers...

Sooo...bottom line...get more people to subscribe, and I'll see what I can do!

Of course, there is a downside to that too, if you get the big boys, then you can charge more, but you freeze out some of the little vendors that have been the bread and butter of the magazine and the board. Mike comes to mind.

Bob, you guys do a good job, I'd love to have more issues, but I don't want to lose the flavor of this wonderful periodical. I can see it would be difficult to manage.

Hmm, let's see, what would I change? I know you didn't ask me Bobd, but here's a novel thought - Christmas in July issue!! WOW! What a great idea? Why didn't I think of that before!!! Jim, if you've read through the past posts you will see that I've been bugging BobD for a Christmas in July issue for about 2 years or so, right BobD? Just try it once - what have you got to lose?

Betty

Hi Betty,
We're working on something...

Besides...we're just trying to give you a whole year to get your inventory ready for Christmas.
