It makes sense to not spend time tracing, especially considering it wouldn't be quite the same. Thanks for the replies.

This is a great topic. I had never used tape ~ actually sort of never thought of it ~ until I read about it here on the list last winter. I tried it for the first time just after thanksgiving. I made some small jigsaw puzzles for Christmas and used the blue tape. I put the blue painters tape on the wood and then adhered the pattern to the tape. I'm a rubber cement pattern guy and the whole project seem to work well. I still did not come away with any sense of changing my style and I don't know that I will use tape more after that. However, after reading all the replies here ~ and having just recently experienced using the cheap o tape on a large quantity of moving boxes ~ (my Christmas present this year was a new house - my punishment was moving between Christmas and New Year) I like the idea of using the cheap clear packing tape. I can see the advantage.

Anyway, I liked this question and I really liked all the responses. I'll be doing some different experimenting here in the near future.
