| SSW Issue#28 - Fall 2007 By the comments on the board, and the number of successful fox hunt entries I have received, it looks like the issue has made it to a number of subscribers.
I'm anxious (as always) to hear feedback on the issue - both good and bad...
Which projects are top on your to do list? What did you think of the turkey namecard holders? I know they are a little crafty - but I really liked them.
What do you think about Randy Crossman's puzzles? Did you like the Toucan article - Will that article help you get the kids out into the shop?
We're getting some great entries in the Best Project Design Contest - Hope you all are working on yours! |

| I will only cut projects that really inspire me. They need to be challenging.
So my selfish side wants a magazine full of things like the puzzles,Volker Arnold designs etc. That said, even though I won’t do projects like the turkeys I think it is very important that you include projects for ALL levels of scrollers.
I belong to a local scrolling club and when we have show and tell we all bring in our best and most complex work. The problem with that is it tends to intimidate new scrollers so that they hesitate joining our group. The comments I hear are “My work isn’t good enough”. I can't repeat what I said at one of my first meetings when one of our members brought in a huge magnificent clock, talk about intimidating. Now (3 years later) I would look at it and look for fuzzy or rough cuts.
SSW needs to maintain that balance with projects that continue to challenge the veterans and also to inspire new scrollers. So far you and the rest of the SSW staff have managed to maintain that balance.
It is also great to see articles written by people like Toni and Carl that are willing to share their artistic creative ideas and techniques.

| Hi Shannon,
I received my issue last week and am looking forward to cutting the windmill clock. It will be a gift for my brother and SIL, I think it will go over well.
I also liked the fretwork clock face. It looks a lot classier than many of the commercially available clock faces. I'll keep that one in mind for future projects.
I was amazed by the article on scrollsawn documents. That is some really intricate work there.
Keep up the good work.

| Shannon - I loved the Toucan - my granddaughter is a little too young to help cut it, but I think she'll love it when it's done. And my wife took one look at the turkey namecard holders and told me she thought they'd be a great idea for Thanksgiving. (One of those hints it's always wise to heed!!) And I'm sure I'll try the Christmas ornaments.

| I'm waiting for the grandchildren to come and visit me so we can cut the toucan pattern. My father-in-law commented on the corn cycle...that's one gift already picked out

| Shannon - Just received the latest issue and am looking forward to doing quite a few of the projects. The Turkeys and Tray Puzzle for my grandchildren first. The Windmill Clock, Buck Intarsia, and Shades of Autumn will be next. I really enjoyed both articles on Bill Thurlow and Randy Crossman.
I agree with Rolf. A balance of simple to complex projects is needed to keep everyone interested. This issue does that. From simple to complex I am looking forward to doing 7-8 of the projects. Simple ones (Turkeys and Tray Puzzle) for the grandkids. To the more complex - Creating a pattern so I can try cutting letters and words (Thurlow's article) and cutting puzzles (Crossman's article). The Intarsia projects will have to wait til the others are done - The Trophy Buck is just what I've been waiting for.

| I agree with Rolf 100%. I love the variety of simple projects and complex projects in this issue. The variety of skill levels combined with the variety of styles in the projects is a real treat!
Oh, and Shannon, Happy Belated Anniversary to you and your husband!

| Painting with cotton swabs??? Hadn't thought about that. And ideas of where and how-to with the colors??? Hadn't thought about that either. Great article - thanks.
And yeh, I WILL be cutting both clocks.
