Default Digital level,

Right after I sent my idea about the digital level to Bob, I saw the Wixey gauge that Bob reviewed. That is what I currently use for setting up my saw's. I just happened to have that level and thought it would work well.

Rolf - I am considering the Wixey digital gauge for use on not only the SS but TS as well. My question is - is it worth the money and does it work as well as advertised?

Bob wrote a nice review in the SSW issue. So far I have used it on my band saw and on my scroll saw, the magnets in it a very strong and the gauge is sensitive so it should really work well on the table saw. What is nice is that you can zero it to whatever your refference is. i.e. the tabletop.
My scroll saw table is aluminum so I have to hold it down. I think it is worth the money.

This is one of those threads that makes this place so great! I have been considering that Wixey myself, mainly for tablesaw use as well. Thanks for the testimonial Rolf! Dale

I've also got one - it's good . Strongly recommended.

Regarding the Wixey gage, its resolution is +/- 0.1 degrees. That may be OK for use on a scroll saw, but I think you would be better served to purchase a good 4" or 6" machinist square from Grizzly to set the table on a bandsaw or the blade on a table saw.

My thinking is this. For a table saw, the blade on my 10" will protrude at least 2.75 from the table. If the blade is at 89.9 degrees there will be 0.005" gap between a square and the top of the blade. A 0.005" gap is very visible to the eye, particularly with a light behind it. The Wixey would read that as 90.0 degrees.

If you are setting up a 14" bandsaw to re-saw a 5.75 wide board the gap would be 0.010 inches. That means the re-sawn board will be 0.010 out of parallel before blade drift, etc.
