Default Can I ask?????

Unfortunatly I recieved my copy while I was in the hospital and I haven't gotten a chance to look through it yet--major heart attack this time--yes I will be fine-- but my picking up anything heavier than a fork is strickly off limits for a while -----well I got home and headed straight for my shop to kiss my tools and take a deep breath of sweet smell of sawdust and and was thumbing through the extra mag I got with the last issue and noticed a few books on gourd carving.. Has anyone tried these? I haven't seen any in years and I thought they would be light enough for me to play with and they would be a blast to do. Heck I did a google search and saw some beautiful pieces I would love to try to learn so how about including these in with the crafts portion of the mag. after all it is still wood { well, in a way it is } but I don't have a clue how to get started ...besides begging my son to plant me some seeds ..he said he would but now how do I do the rest? HELP --- did I say PLEASE? Then PLEASE.
Sharon

You can ask...but I can't answer. I'm glad you are going to be OK Sharon. Take it slow.

Glad to hear you're alright, take it slow and recover.
I have never tried to carve a gourd, but my sister has a ton of them in her basement that she plays around with. She generally uses a roto zip tool if she's not trying to get too intricate. For the more delicate cuts, she uses her husbands electric engraver. She doesn't do a lot of fretwork, mostly painted birdhouses, but she has made some pretty nice designs.

Sorry know nothing about gourd carving, but I'll just echo what the others said - take it slow and easy and get yourself well again. Glad to hear you're OK.

Love the gourd carvings but have never done any. I only admire them.
Glad to hear that you are doing ok Sharon. I do hope that someone is keeping a close eye on you.

Sharon,

Glad you are alright. You might try the woodcarvers board that is associated with Fox Chapel. The link is on the left.

Sharon,
You might try posting over on the carving forum...I think there are some people over there who carve/woodburn gourds (Susan Irish for one).
