| That whirligig looks great! Those things are what started my dad in scrolling, which in turn started me! I love the D-Day theme paint job as well. |

#14 | | Guest | Thanks Bob,
I'll check that out... I got some Loony Toon patterns for the mail box. And they give your template of sorts to trace over so you know where to paint. But that was the only one I've ever seen. I like the idea, so I'll look into it.
Thanks for your research into this. | |

| Thanks Bob,
While I doubt if I would make the whirly-thingy I always like to read about making all kinds of things. Usually there is a tip or procedure I use on something else. Case in point. Never heard of that decal paper and it looks like a great thing to have around.
Keep up the good work.

| Bob ;
That is a nice project in the respect that it has few moving parts as in just a propeller and where it turns to face into the wind.
Years ago I made a bunch of whirrly gigs like a man sawing a log with a buck saw, a fisherman in a boat with him continually casting and pulling in a fish etc. Arms and legs and other parts all had to move through a rotation of the propeller through an offset transmissiom . . ( bent wire rod) and the propeller was many times the size of the aeroplane one you showed. Problem with them was that there were way too many moving parts and the whole thing had a tendany to self destruct in the high winds we get around here.They were fun to make but not fun to see them disintegrate within the first season of puting them outside. They also squeaked like crazy when they got dry and had to have a drop of oil or light grease frequently added to moving parts
The one you mention should be basically trouble free because of the smaller propeller and few moving parts.

| I know I will do the airplane. The puzzle vaults will be a must. I was wondering when someone would design one. I loved the book not so much the movie. Is this issue in the mail???

| Here is a site that shows some of the action type whirlygigs that I referred to earlier. It shows how a wire bent in the right way to transfer energy from the propeller (fan blades) puts other parts of the whirly gig into motion. http://www.hccwhirligigs.com/
Enjoy.

| I do like the whirlygig, although I probably wont make it. I would like to someday make the one ive seen before of a pecking woodpecker, something about that one just make me smile! You were right Bob, that is looking like a super issue, theres a lot of nice things to make in there!!! I just might make me a few of those 3D pelicans, they are just TOO COOL!!! Anxiously waiting at the mailbox... Dale |
