| Antivirus Protection Just wondering if anyone else here is using Norton Antivirus 2007 and if so is it causing problems with your computer? I put in on my computer in December and it's driving me nuts!!! It seems as if a process called "AppSvc32.exe" runs constantly in the background and gobbles up memory to the extent that my computer runs at a snails pace. When I end the process with Task Manager it stops for a few minutes and then fires back up and takes over again. In my case the protection appears to be worse than a virus!!!! ![011[1]](http://www.scrollsawer.com/forum/images/smilies/011[1].gif)

| In your Norton menu, click on the options, and you should be able to disable the real-time protection (I turn mine off when I'm not using the internet); there is a default that has it turn back on after a few minutes...

| I used to do PC tune-ups on the side and there were many times I wiped out their Norton program because it was causing more problems than it was worth. One Norton feature, which really slowed things down on some PC's, was Norton Go Back.
I am definitely not a fan of Norton. I used to install and use AVG antivirus. I now have switched to Avast. They are both free programs and all upgrades are free. I have found these programs catch infections that Norton missed. |

| That's how I've been coping with it Bob. Sometimes it works until Norton does a scheduled virus scan and then it grabs my system again. I just upgraded for two years and hate to install new virus protection but this is getting ridiculous....Live and learn I guess??

| You should be able to set the priority as well in that options setting...I use the corporate edition I got from a friend, and it allows me to set the priority. When I'm playing video games, I set it WAY down!

| I had norton 2002 and it was great for five years....than i had to upgrade...indeed 2007...it drove me against the walls, it is so irritating and the program has so many roots hidden in your computer untill a friend gave me the new McAfee...it does the same as Nav 2007 and runs even more smoother than 2007.....I really noticed the change going to McAfee.
Never again i will have any Norton programs on my computer and even have said so...i never had any viruses or trojans on my computer with Nav 2002, but with Nav 2007 i had straight away 2 virusses and 26 trojans.
So get McAfee on your computer and ditch Nav 2007.

| Yep!!! McAffee was the first virus protection I used and I liked it. I'm going back to it and chalk my financial loss up to experience!!!

| I have Norton on my computer at work and McAfee on my home couputers and I do prefer the McAfee. A few years ago I had a McAfee suite on my work compurter and it really screwed my computer up and I had to get rid of it. The current version of McAfee seems to be much better.

Until recently, I recommended AVG and had it on home computers, but tried Avast based on an earlier recommendation by Mike, and think it's great.

| I currently use AVG myself and have been using it for about 6 months now. I really like it! Best of all, it's free. I also use ZoneAlarm for a firewall. Another good freebie.
