|  United Kingdom - No peanuts for squirrels Gill should get a kick out of this. One of Britain's oldest gardens has declared war on grey squirrels by banning the sale of peanuts, a spokesman for the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh said on Tuesday. "We thought: `Why feed these brutes and sow the seeds of our own self-destruction,'" said spokesman Alan Bennell. Bosses at the gardens, founded in 1670, decided to withdraw peanuts from sale at the gift shop after their 15,000 fragile plants became overrun. "Along comes the greedy American grey squirrel with its funny foreign habits, namely, it likes eating peanuts, and creates substantial damage to plants," Bennell said. | Generally speaking, I've nothing against squirrels of any creed, color, gender, religion, sexuality, or ethnic origin. I eat French bread, American mustard and Bombay duck. I drink French wine, Mexican tequila and Czech lager, but not at the same time, I hasten to add*. I'm multi-lingual to some degree, speaking English, a little French, and Brummagem. I've also had international dogs, such as German Shepherds and Chihuahuas. But those grey squirrels are a bloody menace. Up the Jocks!  Incidentally, Mike - how do you spell "grey"?  Gill * well, not often at the same time  .

| Gill, I figured it wouldn't take long for you to read that thread, hehe. You certainly are multicultural. But what in the world is Brummagrem? Over here, we spell "grey" either grey or gray. |

| You Canadians are weird.  I just dug into the Wikipedia encyclopedia and found where it says that the American spelling for "grey", a neutral color, is gray. It appears that grey is the British spelling. Isn't it interesting the things we learn when people post silly things?  |

| Without a hint of irony, the Wikipedia entry for Brummagem says, "This article or section may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards."  Britain has a wide range of accents and dialects. Some are easier to understand than others. Those from Birmingham (Brummie) and Newcastle (Geordie) are notorious but at least they've never been subjected to the indignities some Scots suffered when they were accompanied by subtitles on television .Gill
