Default Pyrography

I would like to add another level to my scrollwork with pyrography.
Any recommendations as to who makes the best burners?
I am Looking at Colwood.

My friend, Alfie Fishgap (www.fishgap.com) swears by the Colwood Galaxy. I've got other friends who swear by Razortip...both are really good burners.

I've also heard great things about the Burn Master by Wood Carver's Supply...they even sell a combination unit burner/micro motor rotary tool. The Burnmaster can be adapted to use ANY burner.

The reason I mention the micromotor is that I found mine invaluable for removing the fuzzies from the nativity scene I recently cut. Chuck severa pieces of 0000 synthetic steel wool in a mandral, and run it against the back of the pieces at about 1/2 speed...the fuzzies just disappear!!!

Bob,

I would love to see a series of articles that flow with patterns in the Scroll Saw Work Shop Magazine that teaches how to incorporate wood burning into the project.

Nothing serious, just how to highlight and or add 'flavor' to scrolled pattern.

I have used just a cheap wood burner on some of my scenic pictures where I thought the wood wood become too weak if I cut it. For instance I had shingles on a barn that would have weakened the wood too much, I just burned the lines in and it really looked great. I also burned the vertical siding lines on the barn. I used a very fine tip on the burner.

There was a back issue of SSWC that had a lot of stuff on woodburning in it .. just can't find which one at the moment - I'm sure Bob D will know....
