Default Catalogue Printing

I'm going to be experimenting with home parties this November and as such I wanted to have some catalogues printed. Does anyone have any experience or sources they could suggest. Thus far, the best price I've found is $900 for 250 8-page catalogues. Is this what they cost? Considering the volume of junk mail cataloges and such that I get, I thought they could be had somewhat cheaper.
Thanks in advance.

I found your question to be quite interesting, so did some searching, too.

Because most printers would use a color copier for your small job, I searched on 'color copies', and found this site, which I thought was very reasonable:

http://www.docucopies.com/orderform_booklets.asp

The deal is you send them a formatted file (preferably PDF format) that is ready to print. Their cost for an 8-page (4 pgs/2 sides) 5.5" X 8.5" booklet on 24# digital white stock is $200 (they have an offer for free binding).

I would call and ask about paper choices, how to put pages in proper sequence, etc., but that's a pretty good deal for 2000 color images.

Thanks for the heads-up Pete! I'll have to look a little more closely at this one.

You will do WELL with home parties!!!

I had one in my home last fall, and did a couple in others homes last fall.........all I can say is "KA-CHING!!!! Lets put it this way.......paid for the DeWalt, Jet mini lathe and all accessories, Delta sanding station, my craft store rent for a year, a whole bunch of wood, Federal taxes on business income, and still have some left over.......

Consider CD's for your catalog....... I burned about 50 with pics of most everything I have ever cut with wood type and price incuded on the pictures. They go over well. I include a couple business cards in each case as well.

Another thing I've done is have a laptop running with a slideshow of the CD, generates LOTS of orders. I have a friend who is doing the craft show circuit this fall (I'm getting a house ready to sell , and they play my CD. That has generated a few orders as well.

GOOD LUCK!!!

A home party for scrolling, that sounds like a very interesting concept. Could one of you elaborate. I would love to know how it would be run. Do you take finished product for sale as well as take orders?

You've got it. Mine were an "open house" format. Invites sent out with time and location..... I set up tables and displays of finished product, had food and drinks available, had the "CD" running as a slideshow on the TV. folks stopped in, browesed, snacked, some bought, some ordered, some ate, visited and left.

Barry,
I like the CD idea, sure would make it a lot easier.

Marsha,
I can't comment on how well this is going to work but what I'm planning on is offering a 5% discount for cash and carry purchases. The host of the party will receive their choice of 10% cash or merchandise of total sales booked through their party. I will have one sample of everything in stock on display in addition to the catalogue with pictures of custom pieces. I'm still kind of figuring out how I'm going to handle it. Maybe lots of booze to get everyone drunk to spend more money.
