That's one of those questions that's hard to answer. You might consider yourself a beginner and others would consider you an expert. When you feel you have the confidence to move up in difficulty, you have advanced to the intermediate or advanced level. You're question asks about woodworking which covers a broad range. Some people are experts with a scrollsaw and beginners on a lathe and vice versa. Probably the easiest defination would be that if people want to buy your projects, you are no longer a beginner.
Below are pictures of the first and second projects my boss did on my scrollsaw. She does have her Masters degree in Art, but had never used a scrollsaw before. I had her do the first lesson in The Scrollsaw Workbook and she went to these: The cross was her first. I couldn't rotate it and resize it without losing the quality.
