Hey all you power carvers, what do you use to clean the burned on wood from your carving bits? Some one told me to use oven cleaner, but it didn't do a very good job. ???

I use a propane torch and a wire brush.

Wood Carvers Supply,Inc has aroduct called Pitch RX for cleaning burrs. Says it easily removes pitch,gum and resin from
Carbide and steel burrs and worls well on diamond ruby and sapphire stones. Actually, a host of tools it works on.

I soak them in denatured alcohol for 20-30 minutes and then use a small brass brush. Works pretty good.

I spray oven cleaner in the cap and soak them there. Then brush it off. Got that tip from Yahoo Powercarving club a while back.
