| Personal Photos Can you guys who are using a photo as your avatar please tell me how you did that? The rules say the picture can be no more than 80X80 pixels for the avatar and no more than 100X100 pixels for the photo in the profile. When I try to downsize any photo to fit those requirements the photo goes all "pixilated" and looks like a messed up computer image (which it is I suppose). Thanks for the help.

| Old Mooner,
I used a high quality picture and used a photo editing software to reduce it to 80x80. I'd like to get better quality also but that's the best I could do. Gill has a good picture, I'm sure he can help.
BTW, what's wrong with Elmer Fudd?

I just took a selection from a photograph, stuck it into PSP9 and resized it so that none of the dimensions exceeded 80 pixels. I also used a resolution of about 150, IIRC.

| Gill,
I think it is the spelling of your name that throws those of us on this side of the pond. First thing we think of is those breathing apparati a fish uses, and then it seems it is probably short for Gilbert. Do you all pronounce it as we would pronounce "Jill", or are you indeed pronounced with a hard "g"?
Whatever, we appreciate your expertise, gal!!

| When I see Gill's name I recall the kids story "The Wonderful Pigs of Jillian Jigs"
by Phoebe Gilman. Hmm is that a hard G?
Well the story still works, there are enough of us pigs

| No hard feelings . The name is very common in the UK and it's normally an abbreviation for 'Gillian' - only in my case, it's the full name (it would be ). It's pronounced exactly the same as 'Jill'.

| Here's the deal. I have a couple of programs that will reduce photos, but when I reduce to the 80X80 pixel size the photo loses most of its clarity and becomes "computerized" looking with little squares and dots all over the place. The photos are the same ones I am using in my gallery (which have been reduced by about 50%), but when I go smaller distortion occurs. I guess the picture has to be taken at a lower megapixel rating.

| you may find it better to "soften"the image once it is reduced. It becomes a little blury but it will be usable. Microsoft Imaging has this.

| Moon,
E-mail me the image at duncan@foxchapelpublishing.com
We've got some pretty sophisticated photo programs here, so I'll have a go at it!
