I was on holidays last week and drove through much of the southern part of British Columbia. The scenery was incredible and the forests for the most part were lush and green. I did see the results of the Mountain Pine Beetle. The outbreak here is the largest recorded outbreak in North America. ![]() Not only does this affect the wood but the who environment, fish and wildlife also is affected. The government is taking measures to control the infestation, including burning and harvesting of the beetle-killed lodgepole pines. When the wood is harvested it contains a blue stain running through it caused by bacteria left behind by the beetle larvae. Some ingenious people are now producing pine flooring which reminds me of spalted maple. Another person in the interior of BC is marketing products under the name Denim Wood. I hope the plans the government has will bring the problem under control. The epidemic has killed approx 283 million cubic meters of timber. I hope we have a cold winter. -20 c to -40 c This is the natural way of taking care of the problem. I guess this just proves that the insects do run the world and we are just the guardians.

I am not sure, I have heard you mention his name here before. I live in Chilliwack, 100km, 60 miles east of Vancouver. Distances don't mean too much here. We like to drive as much as we like to scroll
