Default Sharpening

In response to Joel Hull's sharpening article in Issue 19 (page 46), a subscriber writes:

'Joel Hull's article on sharpening was also outstanding. Joel have you ever tried the new 3M sandpaper? The grits are measured in microns - from 1.5 down to .5. Sounds like over-kill, but I find them very easy to use with excellent results - and they are inexpensive - $2.50 a sheet. Thought I'd throw the gauntlet down and see if any other reader has tried the 3M paper.'

* * Yup! I've used the stuff and it works great. I buy it here in Canada from Lee Valley Tools. Check out www.leevalley.com. They can be cut to make any size or configuration of strop and I find them particularly usefull to wrap around a dowel to hone the inside of gouges. 8)
