Does anyone know where I might find foam core (I think that's what it's called) in large sheets? I have a panoramic photo that is 24"(h) x 84"(w) that I'd like to frame and I'm looking for something to back it with that would be stiff enough but not too heavy. And, I'd like it as one piece so the seam wouldn't show through the print. Any ideas? Around here the commercial graphics arts stores have left town.

You might try sooem of the Art supply stores .or Michels, craft store . There is also a art supply store on line ,Dick Blicks, That is where I buy all my picture framing suplies. and here is another Jerry's Artarama. Is there a JOAnn fabric and craft store near you they sell Foam board. You might be able to get some from a picture frasming shop. |

Could you use cardboard instead of the foam board? I think I would go with Rob's suggestion and use the 1/8" luan but I would get some foam underlayment that is used with laminate flooring and spray glue that to the luan.

You might want to check with a Photo Studio as some products are not acid free and over time your photo will degrade. I'm not sure about foam core.

ya might try some of that corragated plastic they use for weatherproof outdoor sign boards...(house for sale, etc. ) its cheap and will last. I also believe its acid free and should do no harm to the photo....have seen it in sizes up to 4x4...am sure larger sizes are available........mostly found in white but have seen it in other light colors........available in most lumberyards and home improvement centers

Thanx all. The local places like Michael's and JoAnn Fabrics didn't sell anything as large as I needed. Then I was directed to a local engraver that also does signs. Her source had foam core available in 4'x8' sheets and the duraplast (the stuff that looks like corragated plastic) in 4'x10' sheets. The duraplast is pH neutral and the foam core is slightly acidic (for picture framing and art mounting purposes, Wikipedia says they also produce a neutral, acid-free version with a buffered surface paper but I'm not sure if this person can get it or how much more it costs). I'll have to ponder that one. Any other thoughts before I buy would be appreciated.
