Definately get commitment of the tool money !! And just think, if you did get the laser you could still list it as handmade on Etsy others are on there selling laser cut and listing it as handmade; really fried my backside when I saw that and the prices they were charging!Military Veterans Cross by newenglandworkshop on Etsy[]=tags&includes[]=title Don

Don , wow !!! oh that does tick me off too , i at one time have to confess i loved the idea of a laser cutter. that was of course before i started scrolling ! And what a crock to be able to list that as handmade ! Its the same with a lot of fairs an craft shows, they use laser cutters and are considered handmade, They cut the prices down super low and have put half of the original real handcrafters out of business in the shows. sad and infuriating at the same time. atleast there are some places that wont let you get in with laser cutters ! |

Any idot could do laser cutting but it takes a good crafts person to do the actual cutting on a scrollsaw. I know I take great pride when looking at a finished piece that I know I created by using my two hands and creativity. Mike |

Hear, hear Mike! Cathie, that's just one of several on there and it really puts us scrollers that sell in a hard spot especially in today's economy. We're lucky in that there are people that value an actual HANDMADE piece but unfortunately I think they're the minority. I'm not sure if they saw the same piece side by side and walk away with the handmade one, especially when there would probably be a 40-50 dollar price difference. At the end of the day the majority would probably walk away with neither and spend their money elsewhere scratching their heads and still wondering why the scrolled one is so much more. I've created an account on Etsy but haven't listed anything on there because of this. I just don't know that it's worth the time, trouble and money when this is allowed. Maybe those of you selling on Etsy can shed some light as to how well you truely do? ......and I agree there is so much awesome talent here!!! When asked whether my work was done on a laser in the past I took it somewhat as a compliment and educated them.....that attitude is shifting somewhat and now I stop, take a deep breath and than educate them !Thanks, Don
