You guys and gals are a rip.
Here are a couple of pictures. There are lots of articles on the web about steaming but this was my approach.
4" thickwall PVC pipe with endcaps screwed in. For steam I used a garment steamer we rescued from the neighbors curb( it was being thrown out.) I put a ladder inside to support the wood. I ddon't know if that is necessary. I still need to put a weep hole in the low end of the tube to drain the condensate. It gets real hot and I use gloves.
I steam about 45 minutes, they say it takes about 1 hour per inch of thickness.
The oak gets a bit grey? I will try some different wood. the form is 3/4 pine whatever shape you want just don't make the bends too tight and use straight grain.
Oh yea the base. I cut a slot in it at 35 deg to fit my oak piece.
