Got this from another forum. Stanley Works agreed to buy Black & Decker Corp. in an all-stock deal valued by the U.S. toolmakers at $4.5 billion. Black & Decker holders will get 1.275 Stanley Works shares for each stock they own, New Britain, Conn.-based Stanley Works and Towson, Md.-based Black & Decker said in a statement today. Stanley shareholders will own about 50.5 percent of the equity of the combined company, called Stanley Black & Decker, and Black & Decker shareholders will own about 49.5 percent, according to the statement. The transaction will probably close in the first half of next year, the companies said. Wonder what it will be like to get parts for Delta tools after this takes place??

| I hate to say it, but this country is all about MONEY. And, they don't care how they get it. The customer just has to take what is available & loose ! I just read an add for HENRY RIFLES & it actually said in the add -- If the Henry Rifle isn't going to be made in the U.S.A., then it won't be made. I like that. But, we have to hope they stay in business too. Just some air time for me, Take Care. -- Perk |

What does this mean for Dewalt? Black and Decker is also the parent company for Dewalt, Porter Cable and others. We can only hope that Stanley doesn't cheapen the quality of some of the tools produced by these subsidiaries like they do with their own product line. Perk is absolutely right, it's all about the bottom line no matter what. It is ashame though that our companies have to compete with Asian mfg's and their unfair trade practices which allow them to sell at such lower prices. Someday we might just wake up, but I don't think it'll happen anytime soon; we like the the big yellow smiley face too much!

Ah ... here in the "land of the free" we are losing what few choices we have left all for the sake of earning "the corporate dollar" for the wealthy few!!!!

"...and another one bites the dust." Yipes. I think I will order a bunch of breakable parts for my Delta before they become even more difficult to find. george

Boy oh Boy! What ever happened to consumer protections? When you buy a product now it appears you are on your own. Its a pretty sad state of affairs. You buy their products in good faith that they will be there when you need a part or service. It seems companies can discontinue a product line or replacement parts at will. I have a workshop full or Delta tools. I have a Delta P20 scroll saw with many years of life left in it if only I can find replacement parts. Allowing conglomerates to keep buying up these companies and eliminating some of their good product lines just isn't right in my opinion.

Shame on all of you for complaining! Don't you know that thousands of wealthy stockholders are depending on you to keep buying new to replace 'repairable' products in order to maintain their lavish lifestyle. How selfish can you be for not wanting to share your pitifully few hard-earned dollars with the wealthy elite? It is our obligation to secure and maintain their extreme and excessive wealth even if it take our last dollar!

hmmm, I don't see the big deal. B&D bought delta and porter-cable and porter-cable still supplies top-rate routers, dewalt still supplies top-rate tools. I've never been a fan of Delta but their tools are pretty much still the same. Here's a newsflash, businesses are in business to make money. As far as the stockholders, that would be anyone with 401k's, IRA's, etc. Maybe Stanley will start offering their high-end planes again after the merger.

Kevin, you don't think $4.5 billion is a big deal??? Stanley Garage Door Openers went bankrupt a few years ago, now they have billions to buy out another business. I guess maybe it helps to go through bankruptcy first.

Kevin, You have your opinion and that's just fine, here is mine. What may not be a big deal to you, might be to some of us with limited resources. I'm sorry but paying darn good money for a tool to find out it has been discontinued along with replacement parts doesn't set real well. It makes me wonder if you would feel differently if you had a 500 or 1000 dollar tool setting in a corner collecting dust because the manufacturer just desided it wasn't profitable enough to supply you with a replacement part. For some of us coming up with enough money to buy replacement tools is a VERY BIG DEAL!
