This is an ongoing conversation with my family. What say you? When you use lock washers do you: 1..put a flat washer on the bolt first then the lock washer? 2..put the lock washer on first then the flat washer? 3..put a flat washer on, then the lock washer, then another flat washer? All 3 methods followed by a nut, and no its not me. ![]() Inquiring minds want to know.

I go with the flat washer, lock washer and the nut in that sequence, the purpose of the lock washer under the nut is to keep the nut tight and preventing it from getting loose. Mike |

i agree but a flat washer only when needed, if the bolt hole is the correct size the lock washer will do a much better job without the flat washer. . .. .

Lets hear it for flat washer - lock washer - nut. Looks like everyone agrees. How do you vote Wood Dog? Are you with the general opinion?

Wish electing a government was this easy . I agree, flat, split, nut, and Grover has it right on the money. Reminds me of an old cartoon of a bolt chasing a nut and the nut was screaming "No, No, Not without a washer"
