Default Sue Mey's Cancer cross

As soon as I got the memo from Sue about this cross, I just had to have the pattern to make. I made some, within one hour of getting the pattern, with the intention of adding them to my stock. However, they never made it to my table "for sale". One I gave to a 37 year old mother of 2 who is going through another bout of cancer. She had breast cancer in her late 20's, now has stomach cancer, in congestive heart failure and the outlook is very grim. When she left our quartermania group, I gave her one. Another great friend I met on the craft circuit, was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of uterine cancer. She wanted to buy one, told her absolutely not and gave it to her. Someone was at my last show and said she was going to buy one for herself. Again, I told her absolutely not and gave it to her. Hubby just kind of looked at me. I have no explanation why I have started to give them away. I will continue to make the crosses and display them however, selling them is just something I can't see myself doing. I may ask people for a donation and donate it to the American Cancer Society, or just ask them to make the donation themselves. What do you think?

Sue, thank you for a wonderful pattern that has truly meant alot to everyone I have given it to.

Betty

Betty, what a beautiful thing you're doing. I know it's hard to explain because I've done things along that line as well and I know the feeling. It sure helps me sleep better at night. No regrets here. God bless you. David

Betty,
What you are doing will come back ten fold. That is a wonderful gesture, and you are to be commended for it. We need more people of a giving nature among us.
Congrats!

I WAITED patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me and heard my cry.
He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay,
And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.
He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God;
Many will see and fear
And will trust in the Lord.
Psalm 40:1-3

You brought tears to my eyes as I read your post. Random acts of kindness, such as this, have a very special place in my heart. And I thank you very much for what you are doing!!! You made a difference in their lives whether you realize it or not. Just a simple act of kindness and caring does sooo much. I wish more people did the same more often.....this world would be such a much better place to live.
Thank you again!
Christina

Betty
Wow, the world needs more people like you, asking those who received the cross to contribute to the American Cancer Society would be appropriate I believe.

I did a similar thing last week. An elderly couple was brutally murdered and their bodies dumped in Illinois. When I found out that their son hosted a Chicago show that I sometimes watch, I had an urge to give the family a cross that I had cut out (the John Nelson cross with the dove in the center). I gave it to the news crew at the house to pass on and almost brought the reporter to tears. I found out the next day that their oldest son was two years behind me in high school and that I knew him. That's when I knew I had done the right thing.

Betty that's a beautiful gesture, I'm sure that the people you gave the crosses to will cherish them, I think the donations is a fantastic idea
