Well I know most of us like to see photos, but this is ridiculous. I thought my resident woodchuck was having a feast on my 2 tomato plants. Most of the leaves are gone, and big bites are gone from some of the tomatoes. Upon closer inspection of the plants I watched in amazement one morning as I saw this lovely creature eat a leaf in about 30 seconds. Oh well, we all get hungry I guess.

I think he needs a re-location program.....LOL Or perhaps a praying mantis as a playmate.

Too bad, Wood Dog. My wife grew some pear tomatoes this year that she's been harvesting for salads recently. Very tasty.

I should add, my wife's veggie garden is producing more tomatoes, carrots, kohlrabi, peppers, cucumbers & radishes than we can eat...The rest of the family is enjoying them as well.

Umm, your picture doesnt do it justice. Those things can get to 4 inches long, and they can wipe out a healthy tomato plant completely in a day. Nasty lil buggers. Yes, they are sort of neat looking, but when stepped on they can squirt farther than a stompped on ketchup packet (not that I would have ever tried that lol) . Check your plants over good, if you found one, chances are you will find many more in the next few days. added note, in your second photo, looking closely in the blurry background, I spotted another one of them already, if not exterminated, you can kiss the rest of your garden goodbye!

I think he's a Carolina Sphinx Moth, also known as the Tobacco Hornworm. Here's a picture of one and I think it's a match to yours. There's also a pic of the mature moth. I think they're both beautiful, if your into that kind of thing. Mick

I haven't had those tomato worms the last couple years, I have had some smaller worms though and they burrow into your tomatoes and leave the holes. Right now I have some reddish brown aphids on them.
