I had a hectic afternoon with Casey after school. Had to take him after school on a 25 mile round trip for football shoulder pads and helmet at the Boy and Girls Club here.Got home just in time for him to put his Boy Scouts uniform on and then load up the family for a forty mile trip to the BS campgrounds for a "Court of Honor" ceremony. It started at 6:30 PM and lasted till 10:00 (a free supper was provided for family and friends). He is now officially a Tenderfoot Scout. I'm getting side tracked, and erased a paragraph about parents complaining on the length of the program, but my point is this :How many 12 year olds now days can handle a gun (safely), make a fire (from steel and flint etc..) or know how to read a compass? I didn't at that age (outside of the gun). Even though he doesn't look to excited about it, I hope some day he is... A couple pics of him and Mom receiving his badge.... Jerry

Congrats, sounds like a proud parent with every right to be. In answer to your questions about 12 year olds, I know adults that can't do those things.

Congratulations to your son as well as you and your wife. My oldest son got his Eagle badge right before he turned 18. My youngest son is still a cub scout - he will cross over this fall. |

Congrats to Casey and to the proud Mom and Dad. Another example that there are still people and kids that care about what they do and what they can do!

Congratulations to your son for attaining the Tenderfoot badge, kudos for you and your wife for leading him down the right path. If more parents did spend more time trying to sacrifice their time in order to give their children the opportunity to join organizations that will mold them into responsible adults civilization as we know it would improve drastically. yes, you should both be proud and pat each other on the back. Tell him congratulations from me, a former Scoutmaster. And thank you and your wife for taking the time to be with him. It's a time that all of you will remember. My son is an Eagle scout too. Takes a lot work and commitment from mom and dad. Keep up the good work! While I was Scoutmaster, I had 18 boys advance to the rank of Eagle. Today, every single one of them is successful! Scouting is a wonderful program. Too bad more boys don't take advantage of it. But, it takes a commitment from boys AND parents. El

Without Scouting, I hesitate to think what might have happened to me. Was one of the youngest Eagles in my council and worked staff at camp for a few summers. Tenderfoot is a big step, and if he can avoid peer pressure to drop out, the next few steps will put him on a track that will profoundly affect the rest of his life. I am proof that you CAN do sports, school and Scouts. Had everything not been so close in my small town, my parents would have been nutty from driving me around, but my bike and shoes provided most of the transport I needed. Gentle encouragement from both parents to continue and grow is needed and he will do fine.
