Ed McMahon... 86... Farrah Fawcett... 62... Michael Jackson... 50... Billy Mays... 50... Time goes by and people pass away, that's just the way it is... Johnny and Ed were the best. Charlie's Angels was a must see back in '76. Michael Jackson sure could entertain and was larger than life. Billy Mays knew how to make a buck. I love his show "Pitchman". Too many deaths in too short of time. What a shame!

Yes, I agree, to many deaths in a short time. But, you know what really is quite troubling..... How many of our military personelle lost their lifes in the past week protecting our freedoms, and how much mention of them has there been in the media? To me, I think THAT is a shame.

Quite so Dale, apparently they aren't as important to the media.

Not to start an argument Dale, but who's freedom is being protected over in Iraq and Afghanistan? I personally don't think it is ours. Those young men and women are losing their lives for oil and an alleged fight against terrorism. What's next are we going to save all the waring countries in Africa, Europe, South America and the Far East from themselves? Maybe if we stopped spending money fighting unneeded battles around the globe we could find money in the budget to provide heath and dental care for our own people. I do respect the military, I was in the Air Force, but I find it hard to stomach our governments policies. We really need to take care of our own first! BTW - This thread was about media stars, entertainers and larger than life people in the public view. Seeing them pass away reminds us of our own mortality. We all lose a little when we lose "friends" that we grew up with, watching on television and the silver screen. I'm really sorry that this thread turned into something that was not intended.

G'day Rick, I know exactly where I was when I heard that Elvis had died. That day almost everyone was wandering about in a bit of a daze. "All Shook Up" The Duke I can't remember, but he'd been crook for awhile. I think the suddenness, is what gets people, especially when the departed are not old, and they have been a part of our lives for as long as we can remember.

Lot's of people die everyday and it's tough stuff on those of us left behind. The 'larger than life people' is a strange one for our times ~ we don't know them personally but somehow we feel the loss in a personal way. I don't like the death and dying part of life but I know there is nothing to do about it but 'take it' and keep on living. I try to honor those who were important to me and touched my life. I say a prayer for the ones still living. John
