Default Bloody Cats

G'day all,
Like I mentioned on the chat this morning, I had to take my daughter to the quacks to get a cat bite looked at.
A 1/2 hour wait at the Docs another 1/2 hour at the Chemists and we're back home with a truck load of antibiotics.

The stupid neighbour, a great bloke. but sometimes the brain cells just don't seem to communicate, bought a cat over on Saturday, that he had "Saved".
Wanted my Daughters opinion on it's condition.
Well, having three dogs in the house, got the feral a bit uptight and it latched onto Christines' finger and scratched her face, thank christ she wears glasses.

I cleaned her up and saturated everything in bettadine, but the finger was starting to swell.

Anyhow, after all the drama he got a vet out to look at the cat on Sunday and it ended up getting the "Green Dream".
Should have got a bullet 1st up.

That's been my morning, and I've let of steam, thanks for letting me.

John the only good cats a de*d one in my opinion.
Probably won't hear the last of that remark, but....
Cats should be locked up at night and not left to roam like dogs.

Hope the daughters ok after all that drama.

My cat bit my son, last September (he fell on her). I cleaned it and then about 11 that night he woke up screaming (he was 17 mos) he finger swelled up really bad. Took him to the emergency room, told them what happend, there for 31/2 hours, then animal control showed up. Asked if she had a rabies shot in the last 12 mons, I said no,I knew she didn't have it, so they told me she would have to be kept in quarantine for 14 days at the pound...I'm thinking, leave her at home, she starts acting sick my husband will shoot her, then we'll bring the body.
I gave in, she stayed there during hurricane Ike. Then they wanted $75 to get her out... I thought I would have to go to the court house to pay that fee after I got her shot.. but because of the hurricane they gave amnesty to everyone at that time so that's all I had to pay, so I kinda feel your pain, I think...

We have a cat, or should I say the cat has us.
It is an indoor cat so none of the issues one would have with an outdoor one.
Not sure if you know but the reason a cat can sheath its claws is to help them keep the claws full of nasty bacteria. Thats why when a cat scratches you, you can get cat scratch fever.

Pets are only as good as thier owners.
Since Cats own the humans and not the other way round I dont know where i stand.
All I know is I told my wife and daughter we would only have a cat if it didnt involve me.
How was I to know that feeding the cat and changing the litter box is mans work???????

I found out long ago, (and I am a cat lover, I have three of them) that you don't miss with wild cats. Look at their ancestors. I know my Cats can creep me out every now and then. They will sit there, staring at me, as if they were saying "if I was 10 times bigger, I'd eat you." Cats or dogs are descendent's of wild animals and do resort to their ancestral behavior at the blink of an eye. Hope your daughter recovers ok.

John . Glad your Daughter is ok . And ya , what was you neighbour thinking ? Cats and dogs same room ? He probably had good intensions and feels like crap .
We have a couple of ferrels , tuxedo and when my wife brought them home from the animal shelter I was a bit peeved . She was only going to bring the one home but just couldn't seperate the two as they were brothers .
Long story short , they have sure been different than your normal run of the mill house cat . I've had to earn their trust and that is always marginal . A stranger shows up one is gone like a bullet the other leaves cautiously but with curiousity .
We have always had cats , usually 2 to 3 and sometimes 5 . These were to be a replacement for couple which died suddenly while our house from hell was being built . We had an old 17 year old Himalayan called Popeye . When he was born one eye was shut for the longest of time , hence the name . he accepted these 2 and showed them the ins and outs of living in a home . I have found them to be very bright and entertaining . Could go on and on .
Like dogs too.
Cheers
Roger

Feral cats should be treated like any wild animal. I am an animal lover, sometimes to extremes but at the same time, have a healthy respect of what they can do and are capable of even in the smaller sizes. Feral cats and usually any other animal do not mix. Glad to hear your daughter is okay and was for the best the feral was put down, because it never have accepted domestication again.

Hi John - Glad to hear Christine pulled through without major problems. Thank God she was wearing glasses!

When I was back in the UK we had cats, usually at least a couple, who shared a.k.a ruled the house with our 3 big dogs. They got on fine with no major problems except for one, a tabby pointed Siamese, who really got uptight when dogs or visitors tried to move her from her favourite chair. She could be mean and unlike the dogs, totally untrainable, largely because she was a 2 - 3 year old street cat when we got her, saved from a local shelter by my ex.

When I moved to Mexico, because of constantly working overseas I decided to find homes for all the pets and planned no more animals in our household at least until i was home full time to care for them. I admit to really missing them around, in particular the dogs. In the meantime we suffered almost 15 years with a scourge of stray and pet cats crapping everywhere on our bit of grass we call a lawn - usually semi liquid and always really smelly - raiding the rubbish bin. however secure we made it, and playing extreme sports, usually with dirty paw marks, on the roof and windscreen of our car when using it as a launching pad between our flat roof and the wall to the next door neighbour's grass patch. Plus every few weeks they'd create a scandal outside all through the night as the females came on heat producing later a few more kittens to add to the problem.

Now i'm a kind person at heart and don't wish ill on any animal but during this period I conjured up in my mind horrible ways to trap and get rid of the beggars - an electro charged matting on the car roof being top of the list - but refrained from carrying out such atrocities and continued to suffer.

Finally at the beginning of last year we got our salvation, a small french for Kevin, bought by his grandad as a present, much against my will at the time. 'Fito' has turned out to be a blessing and since his coming by and large the cats now keep away and no more cat crap everywhere. Ok we have dog crap, but its small, doesn't smell and is easily disposed of.

Be clear cat lovers, I don't hate cats and in the past I took a great deal of pleasure from my own ones, but what I do hate are folks who treat them as minor divinities but ignor simple population control issues and training them such that they don't go out at night and ruin the lives of other folks. I put these folks in the same category, no pun intended, as your irresponsible neighbour John who I'd cheerfully arrange to be castrated for such a stupid stunt that could have blinded someone.

Ok - I've been saving that one up for a long while - just couldn't express it strongly enough in Spanish to the neighbours! Thanks for giving me the opportunity mate to let this go
