Angry That just ain't right!

This might stir the pot, maybe not.

It just drives me crazy when someone asks for help, gets several good replies and then drops the conversation!

What ever happened to letting us know how the advice worked out?

What ever happened to saying thank you for a good solution?

I know that some people do reply, but unfortunately, the majority do not. I wrote a little pattern calculator program for myself several months ago. I thought I would be a nice guy and offer it to the folks who post messages here. I don't have the exact number of downloads, but I believe it to be in the 100 - 130 range. Do you know how many people gave feedback or said thank you? The number is under 5%. Somewhat disgusted, I decided to pull the program from the forum and asked folks to request a link via email. Since then I am averaging about six requests per week. Of those who recently requested a copy of the program, three people out of 18 took the time to say thank you; a whopping 16.6%!

I just don't get it. We all want help, but forget to say thank you. I think this speaks volumes about society!

DISCLAIMER: This forum is one of the best around. The core population here are helpful, considerate and caring. The moderators know where to draw the line and do a great job! Shannon and Bob bend over backwards to insure this forums success. This rant is not pointed at those mentioned in this disclaimer.

G'day Rick,
The same thing used to get up my nose when I first joined and still does to a certain extent. especially when you see something that has had a couple of hundred views and only 1/2 dos replies.
It's the backward and forward chatter and passing of info that keeps this fantastic forum alive.

This is one of the reasons, I'm so prolific with my posts, just to try and let people know that their input is being read and appreciated.

One of the upsides of answering and replying to threads is you make a lot of mates and good ones.

It don't take much to say Thanks, or good idea or that stinks

Hi Rick and John. Gee , I hardly know what to say . I have been on both ends of your statements. I have answered queeries here and other forums and keep checking back to see if the advice was of any use . I hope I have replied when I have recieved advice . May not in the past as I was scarred to death of the pc and probably ignorant as to protocall .I have learned not to dwell on it too long . As for answering when I have snagged a pattern , I guess I'm pretty guilty on that count .I think I could spend hours just thanking Vortex for his daily posts.
I guess in the end there is no excuse . Perhaps one can look at a thankyou like this . If someone grabs a pattern they probably are thankful and the fact that they took the pattern is a unwritten thanks . Does that make any sense . If you didn't like the pattern and were not thankfull why would you take it ?
Perhaps the site could have a special thank you button which automatically prints thanks and one's name .
I should stop now as I know I'm probably burying myself deeper with this response .I've taxed my brain as to a good Freudian reply .
Thanks and guilty as hell .
Roger

Rick, very nicely stated and I do believe you were very cautious and polite in your wording. I whole heartly agree with you as to individuals who grab whatever patterns, info, etc and leave no feedback whether positive or negative. Everyone needs to acknowledge the work and time people put into posting pictures, patterns, tips and anything else for others to share. My hat is off to you for being brave enough to sound off and everyone should take it as constructive criticism and a wake up call.

I know exactly what you are saying Rick. I try to post thanks and bits of advice on a regular basis.

So much so that recently I rec'vd an e-mail telling me to mind my own business, and who do I think I am posting in almost every thread. Words to that affect. However the coward was nameless and was from a bogus e-mail account.

I still post and try to always say thanks or offer some feedback. But I sure didn't expect that e-mail.

Hi--------Rick-----I am always looking for ways to improve on my computer clean up and keeping things at hands reach-----not sure just what your program is geared to do but if you don't mind I would sure appreciated a copy------you just never know maybe this program is just what I am looking for but don't have the computer savey to sort through it and put it to its potential-------when it comes to giving thanks I try and go out of my way and give credit to artists where-ever possible wheather it be in an album and noting just who the individual is and then hopefully may bring bussiness their way down the road--------when I am talking to a potential customer I make a point as to just who did the pattern and if I know just where in the world they are I let them know that too--------the scroll saw craftsman and women are in my opinion are a special breed of people------I have yet to come across a fellow scroller who is more than willing to share with them so many tips and ideas to help each other get a little better at the art-----------one such person that I really think is just a gem and is known by her first name and I.D. -----I don't think that it would be hard for most here to know just who the person is-------well again and in my opinion our "Sylvia" is just about the best and helpfull person I am proud to say that I am her friend.............maybe some others have a special person that they too have come in contact with and when it comes to going way beyond just giving a bit of advise and patterns given--------one other person is of course my pal and yours "Andy"--------then their is my pal "Joe"-------I could go on and on but to acknowledge some person's help should be one of the first things we should all do---------and do it without thinking ---------so everyone have a great day and as always "Happy Scrolling"----------Tom

This is one of those posts that you feel you really should post a reply to. LOL In all seriousness, I'm as guilty as the next guy. On my defense, most of the time I reply to the threads that I have positive input to share or threads that move me in a special way. The other threads, I read, I ponder, I learn and usually don't have much time to sort through all of them as I head out the door for work or something that's pressing my time.

Already, this one has been viewed 60 some odd times and only commented on by a minimal few. Hmmm ... kind'a makes you wonder and shake your head in agreement with you Rick!! Thanks for pointing it out and putting us on the chopping block. We need reminded of proper manners and edicate, even those of us as polished and refined as I. LOLOLOL
