Default Saddle Tree

So I needed to get back into the shop after my accident and needed a saddle tree. So I did it and then started on a chess set just to keep things moving along (In Works in Progress.)

Your tree looks great. If you are going to sell them I would sugest a half round shelf with a lip to hold the bridle on the front end.

Seeing your Saddle tree caused one of those *slaps self in head* moments. I have needed a saddle tree for a while now and have been waiting for them to go on sale. Duh! Why don't I just make myself one. *wanders off shaking head and mumbling angrily*

BTW, nice job on yours. What breed horse do you have? Mines and TB.

Thomas, only rode a horse once in my 73 years and that was bareback. Why is it called a saddle tree?

Good question Mick, i have no idea but I saw them in the store and thought to myself, I should make one of those so I can have my saw horse back.
Dragyn - Scar is a Quarter horse. The tree took me a couple of hours to do and I made it with left over 3/4 ply that I had laying around cluttering up my shop from the kitchen project. I am sure it could be better but it serves the purpose.

It turned out nice. Quite a number of years ago I had to draw up a plan for one for one of the kids in my 4H group for their project, and I remember spending hours researching them to figure out just how to go about making one. Somewhere I have the sketches and measurements wrote down and intend someday to make it into a useable pattern that anyone can understand (right now, only I can figure out what I mean from my notes). One thing noticeably different in yours compared to mine is that I allowed a lot more space for air circulation under the saddle as they come off of the horse sweaty and need to dry . Nice project.

Bet it felt good to get back in the shop....

I took your advice and bought an Avanti saw blade and I'm going to try it out this weekend.
