I thought I would throw this information out to the forum re purchasing tools from private individuals . Prior to Xmas I was looking for a wood lathe for my wife . Yes , it was for my wife . She wanted to try her hand at making spinning tops after seeing William Young's post on his tops. I travelled to Washington State to pick one up , but they were on back order so I returned home . I checked for a lathe locally but they had just sold out . I recieved an email asking if I had found a lathe yet . My reply was , that it would take devine intervention to find a lathe at this late date . The following day I recieved an email from the wood turner's guild asking if anyone was looking for a Jet 1220 vs lathe still in it's crate .You can imagine my excitement . I purchased the lathe and my wife was very happy . I picked up most of the accesssories which are required to do the turning . I determined it was like owning a boat .I did not buy the most important tool which is a sharpening system . Dull tools can lead to a lot of frustration. That is the next purchase . Last week the on /off switch failed . I was able to bypass the system . It just would not shut off after an hours running . Loose wire . I decided I should send in the Tool Registration Warranty Card . I needed some info. so I called the seller . I called a week later . To sum this all up . The lathe was a replaement lathe for his first one . The warranty was automatically transferred to the replacement lathe . I found out later from the Jet company ,that Warranties are not transferable to a 3rd. party . Here I sit in a slow burn thinking I had purchased a new lathe with a warranty . I got that sinking feeling pretty quick .Seemed like a good deal .at the time . Ha Ha .Almost full price , no warranty . So make sure you ask all the questions and be aware that 3rd. party warranties don't exist . Thanks for letting me vent . I hope this helps someone . Roger |

Bummer, thanks for the heads up. Thank goodness that not all people are as dishonest as the dude who sold it to you. I always like to believe that what goes around comes around and those who deceive and cheat will get theirs in due course.

Funny how the warranty on a nice big old lathe like that would not transfer, but buy a used car and if there is anything left on the warranty it is yours... Tom |
