Looks like one is a Golden Comet. We have 5 of them and get 5 eggs every day without fail. What is the type is the other one?

Actually, that is a Buff Rock...the only survivor. We also have 5 Barred Rocks, 3 Partridge Rocks, and 4 Black Australorps. The rooster is a P. Rock.

Bear, Thanks for sharing these pics. I used to raise chickens and guineas, never ate them but put the eggs in an incubator and had more. I sure did enjoy watching them. After the coyotes (got through an electric fence ) got them never felt like raising them again. Seeing your pics makes me want to do it again.

Thanks folks, it is fun! We got 12 eggsyesterday....from 13 hens. Amazing to me. cj53 - put a light in the coop if you can. Giving them at least 14 h of light (including sunlight) will increase their lay. I can't wait for summer so I can finish the coop........... Meat birds "home" on left, egg layers on right............scrounged/salvaged about 2/3 of the materials........... ![]() And the coop today (about 15 min ago!):

Is there a reason for a white golf ball in each nest ? I'm guessing it may have something to do with stimulating the hen to lay eggs? Just a guess ? Nice coup . It reminds me of my first marriage . I lived in an old converted chicken coup . Roger |
