Default Machine Embroidery ?

Ok, I double checked, and yes Im in off topic, so here it goes. Is there anyone that knows much about it?My wife has a Brother embroidery machine thingy, and I found a site that has a bazillion patterns for it, downloadable online. They sell a membership deal that allows the user to use any of the patterns for a set amount of time . I know she likes many of the designs on the site.My question is... is it fairly simple to download the patterns from such sites and plug the little card thingy into the machine and have them turn out nice?I dont want to buy her a membership to it if its something that will just turn into to much trouble to be worthwhile. What do you do (providing someone else in here uses a home embroidery machine) Thanks.

Hi Dale. gosh I never downloaded the online things. but if she like the designs, I would say yes, but she is the one who knows if the cards fit her machine, maybe you could get the modal # from her machine, and ask them if they will work. and do you have the right thing to download too. card an all. just go in there and ask quistions. you can't go wrong with the brother folks. if you have the right pc to do what it takes. they are very acurat, your friend Evie

Hi Dale,

I don't know specifically about the Brother machine, but getting patterns onto my wife's Bernina is fairly simple.

That said, be careful of the quality of the patterns. There are a lot of awful patterns out there which look pretty on screen but which don't take into account how the needle and thread work. This can cause minor problems (excess color changes, cutting, and tying) or major ones (knots & breaks).

Just make sure her machine is compatible to getting them from online. Some machines you have to purchase the additional supplies in order to do so. you can look at her machine online or check out her book.

Dale,
My wife also has two of those machines (the cost of one machine exceeds all of the power tools in my shop) I haven't figured out why she needs two of them, but hey..... She has had successful downloads from some sites and not been so lucky on others. The places that she could not get the downloads were nice and refunded her money.
I would have her check the site and see if they give refunds for unsuccessful downloads.

My mother has one of those machines and she has quite good success with downloaded patterns. That being said I would repeat all of the above cautions. I guess it is just like downloading anything, you have to be cautious of compatability and quality.

Thanks yall.I did buy her a membership to that site I was talking about. Now, I guess I better sneak in an order for some of those big thread spools.I seen a bunch on ebay that sound cheap, I might as well do that, easiest that way for me, I wont have to go in a sewing store!
