I couldn't resist replying to this one. I was lucky enough to get some Peruvian walnut early this year. It cuts like butter and takes a finish like glass! Great question Mytoya!!

Wink Walnut is my Pick !!!

mytoya : you know I've always did all my own milling of material and just love making Christmas Oranments out of 1/4" Walnut and Maple , Red Oak . But I've got on a kick of using lately of 1/8" BB plywood and it's so much easier to work with on real small projects . But your right on the finishing part of Walnut it's a lot prettier when finished , I want to welcome you also mytoya !!! Marshall

For me its that wood called FREE! it comes in all sorts of colors and sizes and I don't cry so much when it goes in the burn pile.
Second choise is Western Red Cedar.

Alan,
I agree free is nice---but my first choice is WRC...Then I really like working with blue pine not so much for it's cutabilty (is that a word) but for the finish and different tones of the wood.

I also like Walnut due to the Beauty of it. Do not care for the smell of cutting it. I recently planed some Pine for base boards, this really made the basement smell good. Just got some nice Oak boards from a pallet.

I like cutting walnut as well, and I like the smell. Sassafrass is also a favorite of mine. Really makes the whole house smell sweet!
