All, First you have to forgive me for the sorry pictures I finally got it all put together last night, glass cut and flag stuffed in and may have to give it up today. I had to make sure I got some pictures, but they are not very good due to lighting. I suppose I'll take my camera with me today and snap some more pictures when I hand it off to the customer. It is of course a retirement flag/shadow box for somebody retiring from the US Air Force. It is made from cherry, the face of the wood used on this one is absolutely wonderful. I enjoyed making this because I loved seeing how beautiful the wood is. Again I was totally amazed by the beauty God put inside a try, just incredible! It is 20x30, the blue background is flocking (the picture stinks) and I epoxied all the medals and such onto the background. Let me know what you all think. I will post new pictures if I manage to get some today. Thanks Tom |

G'day Tom, That is neat. I think these type of boxes are unique to the US. As we do not fold our flags like this. I like it a lot.

JohnB, there is a long tradition behind it, each fold of the flag and the final shape is symbolic. Here is a link if you want to read more: USFlag.org: A website dedicated to the Flag of the United States of America - Flag Folding It looks great! I bet it will stay in his or her family for generations to come.

That is a nice way to honor the medals and the person who erned them. I just recieved my Grandfathers medals from WW1 and 2 and was looking them up on the net last night. There is an amazing amount of info on the web. So thanks for sharing. That will be a family heirloom and you should be proud to have made it for them. Alan. |
