Default Dog lovers, wish us well

I've been posting pictures of my puzzles for a few years now and thought I would briefly share with you dog lovers a rescue effort we're currently involved in. We found this animal at a local shelter and named her Wendy. She'd been found during the summer running loose in southern Illinois farmland.

She's about 2 years old, 30 pounds, had a lung infection, heartworm and was pregnant! We brought her home and found she was the nicest, most well-behaved animal we've ever seen and loves everyone. We therefore decided to try to save her and keep her.

The first job (after clearing the infection) was to terminate the pregnancy because she couldn't carry the pups to term with heartworm and we didn't know how big they would be. We couldn't find a vet who would attempt the risky surgery and then found one who had experience with this sort of problem. She operated, removed six fetuses and the uterus, etc. and Wendy has recovered nicely. Now we're tackling the heartworm, which we're treating in two phases and which requires three or more months of inactivity (no running playing or excitement).

Wish us well. She's worth it.

Have phun..... Carter

She looks like a cuty. Its nice of you to spend that much money on a stranger. But it sure looks like she is getting better and enjoying her new home. Now all you need is a ladder for her to get high enough to pet.

By the way, I forgot to mention that Wendy has a black tongue. There's some Chow (or perhaps Char Pei) in there somewhere...... Carter

What a beautiful thing you and your wife are doing. If it wasn't for allergies, we would have a pet also (probably a cat though). Looks a little like a mutt my wife's family had 40 years ago. Good luck with her.

Good for you Carter.
I've taken in a few dogs over the years and they all turned out pretty good.
I think they are just paying you back for taking them in.
