Here are some pics of stuff I've been doing lately. I've got a new lathe I've been playing with which has kind of sidetracked me. I've been having a lot of fun though. Thanks for looking. Chris

Hey Copperfish, That is some really nice work. What kind of lathe did you get? How long have you been a turner? Please tell me that you bought an upgrade from your old one, because if this is what you can do right out of the box......................THEN I GOTTA GET ME ONE OF THOSE!!!!! Also, great wood choices. Tom

Hi Tom, I bought a PSI Turncrafter Pro midi lathe. It is my first lathe, I've been turning a couple of months or so. I've made about 3 1/2 dozen pens and the two bowls pictured above. I'm having a blast! This is the most fun I've had for awhile. Thanks for the nice comments. Chris

Well, looks like you and your lathe are getting along real well. My want to do list is years long allready but I do want to try working with a lathe. I have a couple of piles in the backyard thanks to Chance, anybody know a stupid rich art collector? Alan. |

Chris, First off that is some very nice turning, I especially like the shape of your second bowl. What wood did you use? Did you have anyone teach you how to properly use the tools? The reason I ask that, after not having touched a lathe since high school I found I needed some guidance because I kept getting nasty catches with my bowl gauge. That is when I joined a turning club.

Rolf, the first bowl is myrtlewood, the second one is apple. I bought a very good beginners book to learn how to use my tools. I also did research on the net and watched some videos on youtube. There is some excellent information out there. I printed off some pictures illustrating the correct methods and posted them on the wall behind my lathe to help remind me. Trout, here is a link to the site where I learned to make pens on my drill press. Try it, it's fun. Alices Workshop - Making Pens without a Lathe Thanks for the nice comments guys. Chris

Chris, That is outstanding! I'm glad you are having fun with it. That is what it is all about. I know the recipients of your work will really like it too.

Wow, Chris, those are beautiful. Multi-tasking and multi-talented. I have a new lathe sitting in its original box waiting to be put to use ( A gift from my children). Didn't start with the turning yet because I have too many other projects going right now. The last power tool gift from the children was a scroll saw and after I got it running, I haven't let it cool off . Wanted to get these other projects finished first. You provide great inspiration!! Regards, Dick
