| Thanks for being here Hi Friends, I wanted to let you know my participation on the forum has been a bit eratic lately, due to my Hubby's illness. He passed away on Friday following a short but tough battle with liver cancer. I'm not normally so open about things like this, but I need your help.
I want to make an ash container for his remains and I need a pattern for a fretwork dragonfly. I've gone through my mags and I can't find one. I found a really pretty intarsia one but it won't work for me. So if anyone can direct me to a pattern for a fretwork dragonfly it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Marsha

| Marsha you know we are all here for you with our prayers and thoughts. Life is so very short......may you find comfort in your God, family, friends, and the good times you shared with your husband.
I don't know if this will help, but Google Image has lots of photos of dragonflies. Maybe you could use one of their pictures to make a pattern.
Take care..... dragonfly - Google Image Search

| Marsha, My sympathies to you and your family! May your memories bring you comfort during this trying time. I was looking for the dragonfly that Dave (Plaquerd) posted. I've made that one and it is very nice. If you need anything, you know we are here! God bless,

| Sorry to hear that Marsha...been there, but beat that one!
What exactly do you want to do...are you going to turn an urn with a dragonfly inlay, or is it going to be a box with a fret dragonfly and the urn inside the box?
I just cracked out a few of these this morning, they are not difficult to do. I could easily draw a dragonfly, or you could too. Simply grab any old dragonfly off the internet if you can't simply draw one, trace it out with your pencil, then come back and erase sections of it so that there are no inside holes that will fall out. The larger the cut lines, the easier it is to inlace. I put the inlace in the hole, stir it around in the hole with a used scroll blade to remove any bubbles and refill hole, then I slam the wood down many times on a hard surface which beats the inlace nice and deep. If this is what you want and you can't manage my pencil plan, let me know, I can whip up a dragonfly faster than I can catch one.
I do not generally suggest just stealing a dragonfly image, but a dragonfly is a dragonfly, and when the background scene is gone and you alter it to wood, and most importantly you are just using it for yourself, I feel it's ok to do so. In my gallery, there is a dragonfly that I made as an intarsia, and you are more than welcome, JUST YOU, to trace that out.
