| Need computer help I don't know what the heck is happening here, but ever since my last "Automatic Windows Update", my computer is moving slower than dial up!! Is there a way to undo whatever the update was? This has never happened to me and I am livid! I have run anti-spyware and antivirus with no threats found. I run Windows XP if that means anything. What kind of Windows Update will do this to my computer?? When you respond to this, please talk like you're talking to a child because I get confused very easily. |

| Hi Charlie,
That happened to me a few months ago at about the same time I renewed my anti spyware so I blamed it. I never did find the problem and I work with some of the best computer geeks.
I did a couple more windows updates and it fixed itself. It was one of the windows patches that caused the problem.

| I don't put automatic update. I do them manually and therefore choose what is going on my computer.
If you have XP was it put on your computer with service pack 1 or 2? If (like mine) it had only service pack 1 the update will put the service pack 2 on and you will only have problems. That is something you can delete yourself.
I must have told you at some point what it was adding to your computer, if you can recall what it was then go and delete one at a time and reboot to check the speed.
It could also be a combination of update and something already on your computer. As Rolf mentionned, check your anti-virus and any other program that works all the time.

| G'day Charlie,
Sorry mate but I can't help here, except to give you some advice...........
Blow the bloody thing up or use it as a boat anchor.
The way I feel about technology at the moment, I'd do it in an eye blink, anyhow, that stories for another place and time.
Hope you get your problems sorted. |

| I don't have a clue how to.........
1- pick and choose what I want
2- determine what is needed and not needed
I have attached 3 screen images of what my computer is. After some digging I did manage to locate how to uninstall and update. I am still running antivirus and antispyware, but after that I will reboot and let you know. Again, I don't know how to tell what is good to keep and not good. (from legitimate sources of course). If it does work I'd like to leave this thread up for other people to post pc problems...unless that already exists.
You mentioned Service Pack 1 and 2 but if I see it right...I have service pack 3. Dangit, I hate being computer illiterate! |

| Charlie have you tried to do a "system restore"? Here's how to get to that screen with Windows XP.
Click Start > Programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > proceed from there with the next buttons and read all the info before you decide.
This should restore your computer to the way it was from the date you choose.

| I like JohnB's advice but Wood Dog's advice will work.
Just wait till you start working with Vista. Nothing but good times. |

| Two days ago I had a security update package that knocked my computer into a loop , which I could not get out of . I finally called Shaw , our internet connection .Once in the Add/Delete file and about to remove the updates I was cautioned that Shaw would not be responsible for any problems encountered by removing the updates . They sent me to Microsoft .It took a couple of hours to finally get the computer sorted out . I was told it had something to do with the drivers . The US will not handle Canadian customers , so you have to go through a Canadian Tech. if calling from Canada .The following AM I could not access SSWS&C until the afernoon . Working OK now .LOL
