Default Tried A Different Bowl Finish

Here are three alder bowls I turned a few days ago.
I have never tried this type of finish on bowls but I probably will use it more in the future.
I oiled the bowls with clear Watco oil the day I final turned them and then gave it a few days to cure. Nect time I am going to try 100% pure tung oil .
I followed up with a buffing with carnauba wax and it came up with a beautiful super smooth finish with just enough gloss to not be too much (I think) .

Those look great, Bill. What sort of care instructions do you give with your bowls?

I often use wax for a top coat, as it gives such a nice feel to the wood. The 'tung oil' wiping varnish I use (Minwax) recommends against it, though, unless the finish is very well cured, so I haven't tried.

Nice bowls Mr. Young, but I'm wondering if they will be used for food, and if so is that finish food safe?

These bowls are seldom used for food . Mostly decorative use on coffee tables etc.
However most modern finishes are considered food safe.
Did you know that the apples you buy in grocery stores go through a automatic spraying and buffing sytem with wax. ? They don't come off the trees like that because of the dull look from all the spraying they get in the orchards to prevent worms and scabs etc. .
