William .Back to the spinning tops . What would happen if you were to drill a series of holes around the outside edge ? Would you get a whistle sound or any sound at all ? Would the balance be impeded ? Sorry , still don't have a lathe and you seem to be up to the challenge . The monkey tree fellow still has'nt got back to me . I wrote to UBC . My wife is going to take a lesson on Fri. to see if she likes it .Cheers.

Really great looking pens! Do you put some type of finish on the deer antler also?

Bill ;
Yess i put the same high quality finish on the antler as I do on wood.

Evie;
The refills are available at any stationery store.

Roger.
Putting holes in rims tops would put them off balance for sure unless they were spaced dead on. . Even a small knot will put some out of balance .

Back on topic to rifle shell pens.
I did a show and tell at the coffee shop this morning and sold the other one right away . Got back home and there was an email request for two more from one person.

W.Y.

William. Is there any thing you can't make into a pen. Great work.

I tried a few more of the shell cartridge pens today. .
Wanted to see what the difference would be without the center bands because that is way the kits are supplied.
The center bands are an extra part from another kit and take more time because a tenon has to be cut for the center band to fit over.

I had difficulty taking this picture but such as it is , there is from left to right,
bocote, purple heart, highly figured black walnut, deer antler, maple and deer antler
