Roger .
I understand the monkey tree is a speceies of African Mahogany and therefore I doubt if it has cones but do not know if it bears any nuts or pods big enough or suitable enough for turnings .

Monkey tree phenomenon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On the other hand, If it does and somebody wants to send me some , I will turn practically anything that it is possibe to turn.

The growths on that mahogany tree that can sometimes resemble a monkey are probably burls and if so , I have never found a burl I didn't like and would be interested in seeing a cross section of one. . Burls usually contain some awesome highly figured wood patterns.

I'll make an inquiry Mon. at our local nursary . They are supposed to have a tree hidden somewhere . It may be the wrong time of year to collect them .
I have a question re the Jet lathe . Was there a weak component to the jet that needed to be modified ? I'm getting this second hand and pretty vague , other than the jet had a weak link .

Nothing that I have ever heard of . General Internnational mini lathes had a lot of problems with their VS controllers but I have not heard any problems with the Jet line yet.
There is one of the bigger models of Jet between the mini size ones and the full size ones that use a Reeves drive system with sliding pulleys for VS. That has been a problem on some and they eat up belts. Other than that Jet is recognized as one of the best lathes on the market for the money.
