Default Lots Of Bowls And Shavings

Between yesterday and today I battled the heat wave and rough turned 14 bowls . I wanted to get them done and out of the way while the wood was still green .
the ones that are wrapped are the ones that soaked all last night in D A and the ones that show bare are the ones I did this afternoon and are now in the D A and will be wrapped tomorrow.
They vary from 7" to 10.5" in size. They will be dry and ready to final turn and finish in another couple weeks or any time time after that whenever I get around to it .

.

One thing about hogging out the middles of a bunch of bowls like that is that it creates a lot of shavings. I will shovel these all out of my way now so I can get back at smaller turnings again like pens and stoppers and vases and goblets . . . and . . . and . .
Nice thing about turning green wood is that there is no dust so a dust mask is not needed . It is also fun to hollow them out because so many can be done in a short time.
Full face mask and shop apron is definitely required for the juice spraying out of the wood. Its a blast lol

I have hinted to some relatives that I would like a gift of a proper turning smock next time like this one from Lee Valley instead of the usual socks and shirts etc.

William . Busy as ever I see . Can the shavings be used in a barn with animals , perhaps a neigbours ? You might check this site out re vacuum chuck . Woodworking Tools Supplies Hardware Plans Finishing - Rockler.com. You may have seen it already .

Roger.
I have that exact Hold Fast vacuum chuck but I got it from a different supplier at a better price. Vacuum chucks are not used for rough bowl turning like those but they are great for final turning of the bottoms of bowls .

I live on a mountain side so there are lots of places to fill in right over the edge of my lawn with all my shavings . Just makes my lawn a little bigger every year
