| Thanks for all the nice comments everyone, I appreciate it! Thanks Bill for posting the pic of the drill press attachment. I've also found on the net a tool for using your router table to trim them, then I suppose they could be sanded on the drill press, but I haven't tried using my router table. For finishing, I'm using two coats of friction polish followed by a coat of paste wax. Thanks again, Chris

| Chris, those are great. One day when I have nothing to do, and a few spare bob, I'd like to get a small lathe and give pens a bash.

| Willam . I read the review on the Grizzly lathe attachment and wonder if you experienced the same problem ? I looked at Lee Valley and they sell a couple of lathe attachments also , but I'm not sure if they will work on a drill press . Just curious . Roger |

| William .When you go to Amazon.com:Grizzly H8071 Lathe Attatchment for Drill Press: Home Improvement . Scroll down to Customer Reviews ,there is one review only which seems pretty negative . I was interested to see if you had any similar experiences . I also looked at a turning forum and you happened to mention you were going to buy a Kayak and go fishing . Just thought I'd mention I have two 14' kayaks . One fiberglass and one plastic ( rotomould I think ) The fiberglass is much lighter and easier to handle . Kevlar the best but most expensive .I also have a 12' with a larger cockpit opening and it is also heavy . Roger |

| OK Roger, I understand what you were referring to now. I think that report is a little paranoid and perhaps he did not know how to set it up properly or how to use his lathe tools when he was using the attachment. Yes, some of what he says applies to a certain extent but not as negatively as he reported. I take that sort of testimonial with a grain of salt. Anyone that can turn a good pen with one of those attachments will be able to turm better pens and do it so much easier on a real lathe. That attachment also ties up a persons drill press for what it was originally intended for . . . like drilling At least the guy that wrote that report turned around and bought a Jet lathe . Excellent choice. As far as the fishing goes, I got a fishing licenense in April for the third time in three years and still have not had a chance to get out on the lake for three years . I have too many irons in the fire .  Guess I like turning much more than fishing so I have probably bought my last fishing permit (or boat) I did buy a nice little used Jon boat cheap this spring and fixed it all up and sold it for a profit after never getting time to go fishing. Have chain saw . . will travel. Have lathe . . . will turn W.Y.
