| First Pine Cone Stopper. I was getting a little anxious to try a pine cone bottle stopper so I slipped out to the shop after supper and gave it a try.
If anyone thought that the core of those pines cones would be kind of soft like I did, . . . think again. I think that one was harder than any of the hardest woods I have turned. Lots of tool sharpening every three or four minutes.
Comments welcome.

| Nice Wow that is nice, but after all you are dealing with the heart of the wood, so it's suppse to be hard right |

| That is true but I have dealt with the heart wood of many species of trees over the years but I can't remember any one being harder than that pine cone core. Don't know if it is isolated to just this one or not because a pine cone pen I turned recently was not that hard but it was a smaller cone.
For some strange reason I expected it to be softer than that.

| Remember something.... these pine cones survive fires that destroy the tree one would think that the core would be a bit dense... I wonder what the rating is. Awsome job on the stopper btw. I have been wanting to get a lathe but the only place for it is my garage and I am not about to put my truck outside yet hehe

| That came out really beautiful.
Never would have thought that something like that could be made out of an old pinecone...very cool.

| Impressive indeed!! Thanks for the pic William. I have a new found fondness for all the pine cones I have to rake up in the yard every year. LOLOL I always tought they were a nuisance, but obviously they have beauty hidden in the core. Kind of like a lot of people I know!! ROTF

| Reminds me of jelly fish I saw when scuba diving . Droopy cone flowers look similar. Maybe that's the wrong flower ? Super job .
