Two weeks ago my son's bank account was frozen by the bank because of "suspicious" internet activity trying to use his account. He cleared that up and last week he was at work when he got a phone call from his bank asking if he was in Florida trying to buy a car. He said no, he was in MD working. Luckily, they caught and arrested the guy. The fraud department of the bank took over and he has been dealing with this all week now. His SSN was stolen, someone tried to open a loan in Arkansas, it was denied. Everything is frozen until sometime next week when the SS office releases his information to reopen his account. He has one chance today to get the money he can get out of the bank then everything is on hold again until next week. He has spent hours & hours straightening this out. He has a friend in the county police detective department who will run a check on his name & ssn to see if there are any outstanding warrants in the country on him and anything else they can find. This is just one big mess & headache. He has applied for several jobs that require clearances and we are wondering if something popped up that no one told him about and that is why he didn't get the job. Now when he applies for any loan whatsoever, his credit reports are flagged so they can't be opened immediately. They have to notify him by phone & mail to make sure it is him actually opening the account. So everyone, protect your identity carefully. I have a feeling this is something that can haunt him for a very long time.
And I'm still using the computer at the library mine is still in the shop!
