Rob,

Thanks, and sorry I thought the galleries were open to guests, I'll make a suggestion about that to the admin people.

Trees are for turning and scrolling and woodworking...
Posting a message is generated electronically which is driven by Electricity, which is produced with water, at least here in Quebec it is

Which reminds me what did the fish yell when it bumped into the wall? -"Dam!"

If you are referring to the piece of Diamondwood used for the pen, I purchased a little lot of wood from a billiard queue maker. He was moving to France and sold his stock. I admit I got a good deal, but it wasn't a steal.
It included this piece about 7" long by 1" dia, and another one about 6" long but with less colors in the laminate. I did also get some beautiful Cocobolo, Bocote, Ziricote,African blackwood & ebony.

Regards,
Marcel

hi marcel
not sure i agree with asking people to ' vote ' for your pen is correct, but i think it should be allowed to stand on its own merits as a truley lovely pen. But, as i am a member there i have aready voted, but not telling for which one, as diane has said, you were leading last time i looked...

Wierd. It didn't show thumbnails in the forum and when I tried to view an attachment from the fora or the galleries at A Penturner's Paradise I got a login page with the message "You are not logged in or you do not have permission to access this page." Maybe it just doesn't like me (or connections coming from the States?)

Marcel, much of our electricity hereabouts is hydro generated as well. Oddly, this isn't considered a renewable resource. Probably because of the dammed fish.

Steve I think you missed reading this entry in the thread.

What I find troubling is those that made negative comments about my request did not present entries of their own.

And by the way I don't think any of the entries are better than the others, they are just different. I did not enter just to show I'm the best penmaker in Paradise (as I've never pretended to be the best scroller in here either), I'm not and couldn't care less about my rank: I'm in in for the $100 prize, maybe that will make you disagree even more with my view on it, I don't know.

You see, I already won the beauty part of the contest in my head because it's the best pen I've made so far, but I will make even better ones in the future because I keep trying to best myself from pen to pen.

I am an active member of that forum who shares his knowledge freely, as I did here and sometimes still occasionally do. I make mistakes, I don't pretend to know it all, and I'm able to admit it when I'm wrong.
This is what a forum is about as far as I'm concerned: Yes it is nice to be tapped on the back by our peers when we show our work, but if nobody tells you that you somehow screwed up the design, that you did a shabby finish or your pictures of it suck when it's the case, then you are not getting anything out of the experience. And I don't mean people bashing either, I mean constructive criticism where solutions or alternatives are offered: that's how we can learn to better ourselves.

If a person participates in a forum or just wants to win contests to hear that what they have done is "nice, great, 'you can insert any insipid positive comment' " so that she can feel she is #1, then I suggest they get professional help because it isn't their craft that needs praise it's their self-esteem. (and I'm not aiming this comment at you personally Steve, I'm making it as a general statement)

If you voted for me I thank you for it, if you didn't then I thank you anyways for taking the time to view the entries and vote for someone: you participated.

Strange how people react: Have you noticed that people that haven't been in Paradise in a very long time are suddenly login in to vote, and probably not for me. The one thing my request has done is get people that wouldn't have normally participated do so.

Anyways that was my ranting, I will not comment on it anymore. Thank you to those that put up with me and those that took the time to have a look the pen(s).

Regards,
Marcel

I'm putting my moderator hat on and I'm closing this thread.

Non-bashing and non-personal things have been said, and anything else added would probably become derogatory in nature.

This thread was not meant to air dirty laundry, it was meant as an innocent request to win a 100$. The pens are all winners as far as I'm concerned and I'm sorry if anyone got offended by it and offer my sincere apologies to the great people of this forum.

Respectfully,
Marcel
