Default Trout Tribute

Daughter and I did some fishing in the pond next door. She caught a grasshopper so I hooked it and she caught a couple blue gills with it. I cut up one of the blue gills for more bait. We caught something huge, likely a catfish and someone had the drag on my walmart pole way too tight so the line snapped before I could crank down the tension. We reset and tossed out another piece of blue gill steak and landed this big large mouth bass that any amateur would be tickled to catch. It's about 18-20" long! Biggest bass we ever pulled from that nasty pond, and the hook pulled from his mouth right after we netted him..whoooh!
On another cast in the same area we hooked this catfish which is about 24" long and extra strange because it only has one side fin !?!? <this is good news people..you make a fish project and the fin falls off, no big deal!> Anyhow, this dang thing took us about 15 minutes to get to shore. It swam out then around a weed bed and I think he took a nap then. I thought he dumped the hook and I was snagged, but then he started up again. I could see the line pulling the clump of weeds down until finally he swam back around and we landed him. All fish..catch and release.

Default nothing like having a pond with fish to get a kid hooked on fishing.

Jeff, your daughter has grown quite a bit from when you used her as a model for your fairy project. now that she knows there's fish in the pond hopefully she'll be dragging you out there more often....

the best part is...she'll always remember that time when she caught that grasshopper and caught a fish with it...

thanks for thinking of me....
