| Cabinet construction So it has been awhile since I have posted on this so I thought I would give an update. We gutted our kitchen and I gave myself 3 weeks to build cabinets, actually took vacation. Boy did I underestimate the time required (or was that over estimated my abilities??) !!
The carcasses are built and about 75% installed now. My buddy Steve came over to help me get the uppers in, that is him in the picture and then Tyson has been helping with all the rest. Now if just one of us knew what were doing . . . I hope to have the rest installed in the next day or two but I have had to go back to work and earn some $$ and we are waiting on a broken part for the lazy susan since that needs to go in before the cabinet is secured and since it is the corner cabinet, the other 3 are dependent on that going in first. I did cut a couple of shelves to try out the adjustable shelf holes I drilled and what do you know, they are actually in line and square!! cab01.jpg cab02.jpg cab03.jpg cab04.jpg
This is our old man cat Zeke trying out the carpet samples, we were hoping he would puke on it so we could color match but no such luck! That goes in the living room when the kitchen is done. Zekeee01.jpg
Needless to say that has been the epic of projects for me and I am waaaaaay out of my element but it is coming together and should not be much longer than a few more weeks. Once the cabs are in I can start the face frames and doors. Yikes!! Anyway, that is why there has been no scrolling for me and probably won't be for a while to come yet. |

| Zeke has good taste! We have a Zeke too!
If everything were the color of cat barf- they'd go and change the color no doubt!
Good luck- you're braver than we are. Our kitchen is still waiting for new cabinet doors. I decided using the old carcases would be easier - but getting hubby to do doors is like ...well...ask Zeke !! |

| Yes the cabinets are glued and nailed with 2 inch finish nails and then screwed to the wall with 2 1/2" wood screws. They are not going to go anywhere.
Janette - you sound like my wife, she said the same thing about the cat! |

It is easy to underestimate. We totally rebuilt our kitchen (replumbed, rewired and replastered) and I thought it would take about four months, so I ordered the new range cooker, which sat in its box in the middle of the room for the next year, until we finished the kitchen. I say finished ... with some reservation, we still have no glass in the upper cupboards and the place needs re-painting. My husband's favourite DIY phrase is "It's no good rushing into these things".
Good luck and be sure to show us the finished job.

| I am only too aware of the time, believe me! We had an electrician in and he re-wired the entire kitchen, added 14 can lights, stubbed in the wire for two under counter lights on either side of the stove and will replace all of the switches and outlets when I call him back to finish off. I thought it best to have that part done by a professional. I just found out that we have to order the broken part for the lazy suzan from the manufacturer in Tennessee. Oh boy. Oh well, the rest of the cabinets will go in later tonight after the scroll saw club meeting so I can get the counter guy out to do a final measure. The floors will be installed in a week and a half and Lowes is bugging me about getting the appliances delivered. Good Grief! |

| G'day Thomas,
You are not alone mate. I often get my ambitions mixed up with abilities
Kitchens are nightmares.
I'm a Cabinetmaker by trade and used to build the bloody things for a crust.
I replaced our kitchen about 2 years ago and it's still waiting for splash backs, and I'm still waiting for motivation. LOL
Last week I gave a mate a hand to fit a mate of his, flat pack kitchen. Now that was a FUBAR. |

| Come on down Khalid!!! You can pick up JohnB on your way too!
I am so totally out of my realm it is not even funny which is why it is taking so dang long, I stop and rethink everything about 4 times before I commit and have still made mistakes! |
