We went on a day trip to Lambert Castle in Paterson, New Jersey. It's basically the third home of a very rich guy built in the 1890's to look like a castle. After his death he left the castle to the park service and now it's a museum.
Lots of great wood stuff.
Everything was hand made.
The pictures below are of the outside of the castle, a stain glass window done to honor the man's daughter who died, the main dining room, oak fireplace (not working), the main hall & another fireplace (Not working - none of the fireplaces were meant to work but used as decorations).
A great post (I thought), view from the second floor veranda, a miniature of the US capital, great ship miniatures and wood carvings. The last set is of another fireplace and a huge camera which I thought was interesting.
You can read some more about the facinating history of this place on their website

That nice house for sure; i love old woodwork like that, now you think the garage is the way, i be heaven if the shop looked good as his house, but i went on tour over in okalahoma state fair, they restored a old house, was to be a 1800 farm house , well they goofed and i told em so, as i looked close at the woodwork , kicthen cupboards ect, yes they did a very good job, ecept for one or more goofs , like the woodwork had modern nails in it, not square head, the hinge's on cupboard were not for the time period, they said i was too fussy, and there was no latern holders on the wall, but still was nice job tho.
Evie, yes the floors are marble (Mr. Lambert did have money to burn) and none of the fireplaces actually work - they are just architectural elements.
I wish I could have taken more detailed pictures but my son (1) was on my shoulders kicking my hands and my daughter (3.5) and her friend were running around looking for the king & princess (they finally came to a conclusion that they went out for lunch at the diner, LOL).
