Default Water Snakes

Boy..I have so many nuisances at my house! Chipmunks, deer, and now I'm over run with water snakes. Well, I decided to take matters into my own hands and did myself a water snake round-up! They are ugly, and they sure do know how to make a nose curl. I figure I should get paid for my efforts of course, so I did some skinning and tanning and now have 10 of these.

that is really cool. I have heard of snake skin boots, but that is the first snake skin pen I have seen. How did you come up with that one? We used to have water snakes around our farm and they always gave me the heebe-jeebes everytime I ran across them. I know they are harmless and great for catching mice and other pests but I could never get used to them.

Thumbs up

Nice looking pen Jeff.
I have seen quite a few snake skin pens on my own site as well as on others but this is the first time I have heard of someone harvesting their own snakes and using the skins to make them.
Those snake skin pen blanks are quite expensive if a person has to buy them from the pen supplies sources .

Did you imbed it in epoxy or resin or acrylic ?

A very good use for something (a snake) that you don't want to see hanging around

Sorry I hate snakes. The only good snake is a dead snake and then I don't want 1 for a pen, a hat band or anything else. I don't even watch movies with snakes in them. Think I have a phobia?

This snake is cast in PR resin. Snake blanks average around $15 and usually only available in rattle snake or Ball Python from most sources. I have seen a few coral snake pens floating around, never saw a northern water snake pen though till now. Looks much better in real life, like anything else of course. It was raining outside too, so I couldn't get a well lit picture. Don't just be killing snakes. Yes they are an important part of the ecosystem, and most states have all kinds of laws to abide by. Most snakes here in Michigan are protected species. The northern water snake is one of the few that is over-abundant and not protected, but you still need a fishing liscence to legally kill one.

Beautiful Pen Jeff.
I have done a couple of rattlesnake pens. I hate the smell of snakes, so I don't do to many of them. Mostly on request.
