Default Off To A Farmers Market/Craft Sale in the morning.

Going to my first one of the summer season in town this year now that the weather has finally warmed up. Supposed to be 32 degrees Celsius.
It is only between 8.00 AM until noon every Saturday morning until the last week of August. I have to be there by 7.00 AM in order to get a spot and set up.
I did good every week at that one last year . Hope it is not like the ones I have heard about on some sites where they are down more than 50% this year over last year.
I need out of town and out of country people here because the locals seldom buy anything . It is basically a retirement town and most of them are so darned tight , they squeak . The high price of gas and everything else seems to be putting a damper on things and I will not see anyone at all from USA now that the dollar is at par and the gas here is about 32 cents a liter more expensive than it is just six miles away over the border (where I buy all mine) .
I usually take home between $300.00 to $350.00 clear for the four hours after expenses in recent years at this one . Will be interesting to see how much difference a year makes with all the extra taxes that the BC government has imposed on us in the past year in order to cover the billions of dollars of cost over-runs for the 2010 Olympics that are going to be held in BC.
Wish they had taken the Olympics to China. We will be paying for it forever. This is one time I would like to see a Made In China sign. Right on the 2010 Olympics and held in China. . .

Good luck, William. I've seen your work and poor sales has to mean customers are really feeling the pinch.

It turned out to be a smaller sale than I expected mainly because it is still too early in the season for the market gardeners to show up with their veggies. Just twelve vendors which was about half and half garden produce and crafts . The outside lot has room for about 30 vendors so it will start filling up more every week as more veggies become available. . I don't think I have ever been to a sale where there were so few vendors and so few coming to check it out. No more than half a dozen lookers at any given time.
In spite of it I cannot complain at all because I still came home with $150.00 clear after expenses . The space in there goes by width of space used at $1.00 a foot and mine is a 10 x 10 easy-up so it only cost me $10.00.

I cleaned right out of the pencil in wood puzzles and the eye pods . Sold three pens and odds and ends of other stuff. Even a small fretwork shelf after the lady complained for ten minutes of the dust it would collect. My wife fortunately helped her in the dusting department which clinched the sale .

If I see an increase each Saturday morning from this one I will be quite happy . Now I have to get busy and make more of my fast sellers which I am right out of.

Ah ... the aroma of success. Even if you had to strain a bit to smell it at least you smelled enough to taste success. I'm happy for you William and hope the sales increase for you over the summer.

We just started a farmer's market in our town this year. Not sure if they would even let me set up for my crafts, although someone sells rustic bird houses/feeders. It's too early here for many crops, but the strawberries are out now.

Jerry, Remember that it rains everyday somewhere in Hawaii. Usually just a passing quick shower and I don't know where you are now but get ready for humidity. Your going to love it.
